Amazon Reader Reviews:
"All too often travel stories are simply "We went here and did this, then we went there and did that. Interesting observations, but no arc, struggle or resolution. It's a flat storyline that eventually gets tedious. What makes this one different is the parallel between the journey and the quest to resolve the narrator's trauma. It occurs via conversations with fellow hikers who have also suffered trauma. It's a universal story because we've all been traumatized, struggle to overcome it, and find the meaning we need to go on. The backstory is sad and sometimes it was hard to read, but the journey is uplifting. You keep turning those pages.I found Jingles's journey, both physical and psychological, to be moving and emotionally satisfying. Five big stars."
"Jingles' Promise inspires the secret self we all have within us to complete a promise we make to ourselves or to others. While reading this book you feel as if you are hiking right next to Jingles and experiencing his challenges and hardships. Then you ask yourself what unfulfilled promises have I not fulfilled to myself or to a loved one." "This is a wonderful heartfelt story of a family's love of their son, a promise made and kept, a father's struggle to keep a promise. Jingles and Sherpashell tell their family story of the life they shared with their son, a promise if walking the whole Appalachian trail, struggles on the trail to completion of the trail....And the heartbreaking end to a wonderful life and the challenges faced....u will not be able to put this book down....run out and get this book....." "Oh my goodness - I just read this book and can't recommend it highly enough. An amazing journey through grief in a way that allowed me to see a light where I presumed none could ever exist. An amazing journey to fulfill a promise made years earlier to a ten-year-old in a way I could understand the need to fulfill on such a huge (but sorta crazy) promise. An amazing book that will allow you to see so much goodness in people all around you, and understand why people show up in our lives exactly when we need them. To the authors, Norm & Rochelle, thank you for your gift of love to others in sharing this story with us. I have already recommended this book to many people I love."

Excerpt from Chapter 1:
"We met a 62-year-old man, who told us that he just retired from his job and was fulfilling his dream of hiking the AT, a (continuous) footpath of two million steps over mountains and rivers through 14 states. He showed Adam his huge backpack and challenged him to lift it. Adam, who was small for his age, couldn't lift it an inch off the ground. He told the man that he couldn't believe someone so old could carry his heavy pack over 2,000 miles. The man just looked at him and smiled. Later that night in our tent Adam asks, "Dad, can we hike the AT when you retire?"
